Some digital tools that are expected to be supported by IT professionals include sophisticated algorithms that speed up online ordering and map routes through stores. It also has a roadside shop pick-up service, which Bloomberg notes already exists in 2,100 stores and is expected to increase to 1,000 additional by 2019.
Besides fighting Amazon at retail, it will now fight for top IT talent in Sunnyvale, California and Northern Virginia, where Walmart has a small technology team. Amazon has appointed Arlington, Virginia as one of the houses for its second headquarters.
